Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganism
- Acute otitis media
- Pharyngitis/tonsillitis
- Acute maxillary sinusitis
- Community acquired pneumonia
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Skin and skin structure infections
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
- Uncomplicated gonorrhea
- Rectal gonococcal infections in women
Pharmacology
- Oral 3rd generation cephalosporin
- Stability to beta lactamases
- Activity against Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria
- Prodrug with active metabolite Cefpodoxime
- Approximately 29 to 33% excreted unchanged in the urine in 12 hours
- Effective against gram-positive bacteria
- Highly stable in presence of β-lactamase enzyme
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for Adults and Adolescents
- Dosage for Infants and Pediatric Patients
- Dosing intervals for patients with severe renal impairment
- No dose adjustment necessary for patients with liver cirrhosis
Interaction
- Antacids reduce peak plasma level and absorption
- Probenecid inhibits renal excretion and increases AUC
- Close monitoring advised when administered with nephrotoxic drugs
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cefpodoxime or cephalosporin group of antibiotics

Precautions & Warnings
- Reduced total daily dose in patients with renal insufficiency
- Administered with caution to patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
- Repeated evaluation of the patient’s condition is essential
