Indications

Pharmacology
- Oral 3rd generation cephalosporin
- Good stability to beta lactamases
- Activity against Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria
- Prodrug with active metabolite Cefpodoxime
- Approximately 29 to 33% excreted unchanged in the urine in 12 hours

- Adults and Adolescents:
- Dosage for pharyngitis/tonsillitis
- Dosage for acute maxillary sinusitis
- Dosage for community-acquired pneumonia
- Dosage for acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Dosage for skin and skin structure
- Dosage for uncomplicated urinary tract infection
- Dosage for uncomplicated gonorrhea
- Dosage for rectal gonococcal infections in women
- Infants and Pediatric Patients:
- Dosage for acute otitis media
- Dosage for pharyngitis/tonsillitis
- Dosage for acute maxillary sinusitis
- Patients with renal dysfunction: Dosing intervals to be increased to 24 hourly
- Patients with liver cirrhosis: No dose adjustment necessary

- Interaction with antacids
- Interaction with probenecid
- Monitoring of renal function advised for nephrotoxic drugs
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cefpodoxime or cephalosporin antibiotics

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not teratogenic or embryocidal in animal trials
- No adequate and well-controlled study in pregnant women
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Excreted in human milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Reduce total daily dose in patients with reduced urinary output
- Administer with caution to patients receiving diuretics
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
- Repeated evaluation of the patient’s condition is essential
