Indications

Pharmacology
- Oral 3rd generation cephalosporin
- Stable to beta lactamases
- Activity against Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria
- Prodrug with active metabolite Cefpodoxime
- Approximately 29 to 33% excreted unchanged in urine
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage for various infections
- Pediatric dosage for various infections
- Dosing adjustment for severe renal impairment
- No dose adjustment necessary for patients with liver cirrhosis
Interaction
- Reduced peak plasma level with concomitant administration of high doses of antacids or H 2 blockers
- Inhibition of renal excretion by probenecid
- Advised monitoring of renal function when administered with nephrotoxic drugs

- Known allergy to Cefpodoxime or cephalosporin group of antibiotics

Pregnancy & Lactation

- Administered with caution to patients receiving potent diuretics
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
- Repeated evaluation of the patient’s condition is essential
