Indications

Pharmacology

  • Oral 3rd generation cephalosporin
  • Good stability to beta lactamases
  • Activity against Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria
  • Prodrug with active metabolite Cefpodoxime
  • 29-33% excretion unchanged in urine in 12 hours

Dosage & Administration

  • Dosage for adults and adolescents
  • Dosage for infants and pediatric patients
  • Dosing adjustment for patients with renal dysfunction
  • No dose adjustment necessary for patients with liver cirrhosis

Interaction

  • Reduced absorption with antacids and H2 blockers
  • Inhibition of renal excretion by probenecid
  • Monitoring advised with nephrotoxic drugs

  • Allergy to Cefpodoxime or cephalosporin group of antibiotics
