Indications
- Treatment of acute otitis media caused by specific bacteria
- Treatment of pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by specific bacteria
- Treatment of acute maxillary sinusitis caused by specific bacteria
- Treatment of community-acquired pneumonia caused by specific bacteria
- Treatment of acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis caused by specific bacteria
- Treatment of skin and skin structure infections caused by specific bacteria
- Treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by specific bacteria
- Treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea and rectal gonococcal infections in women caused by specific bacteria
Pharmacology
- Oral 3rd generation cephalosporin
- Stable to beta lactamases
- Activity against Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria
- Prodrug with active metabolite Cefpodoxime
- 29 to 33% excreted unchanged in urine
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage for different infections
- Pediatric dosage for different infections
- Dosage adjustment for patients with renal dysfunction and liver cirrhosis
Interaction
- Reduced absorption with antacids and H 2 blockers
- Inhibited renal excretion with probenecid
- Close monitoring with nephrotoxic drugs
Contraindications
- Known allergy to Cefpodoxime or cephalosporin antibiotics
