Treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections

Treatment of rectal gonococcal infections in women

Pharmacology

Oral 3rd generation cephalosporin
Good stability to beta lactamases
Activity against Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria
Prodrug with active metabolite Cefpodoxime
Approx. 29-33% excretion in urine

Dosage & Administration

Adult dosage for various infections
Infants and pediatric patients dosage for various infections
Dosing interval adjustment for severe renal impairment
No dose adjustment needed for liver cirrhosis patients

Interaction

Reduced peak plasma level with antacids
Reduced absorption with H 2 blockers
Renal excretion inhibition with probenecid
Close monitoring with nephrotoxic drugs

Contraindications

Known allergy to Cefpodoxime or cephalosporin antibiotics
