Indications
- Treatment of acute otitis media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae
- Treatment of pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Treatment of acute maxillary sinusitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae
- Treatment of community acquired pneumonia caused by S. pneumoniae or H. influenza
- Treatment of acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Treatment of skin and skin structure infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus
- Treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections
- Treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea
- Rectal gonococcal infections in women
Pharmacology
- Oral 3rd generation cephalosporin
- Stability to beta lactamases
- Activity against Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria
- Prodrug with active metabolite Cefpodoxime
- Approximately 29 to 33% excreted unchanged in the urine
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for adults and adolescents
- Dosage for infants and pediatric patients
- Dosing intervals for patients with severe renal impairment
- Dose adjustment not necessary in patients with liver cirrhosis
Interaction
- Interaction with antacids
- Interaction with H 2 blockers
- Inhibition of renal excretion by probenecid
- Close monitoring with nephrotoxic drugs
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cefpodoxime or cephalosporin antibiotics

Precautions & Warnings
- Reduction in urinary output
- Caution with concurrent treatment with potent diuretics
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
- Repeated evaluation of the patient’s condition is essential
