- Acute otitis media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Haemophilus influenza, Moraxella catarrhalis
- Pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Acute maxillary sinusitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Moraxella catarrhalis
- Community-acquired pneumonia caused by S. pneumoniae or H. influenza
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis caused by S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, or M. catarrhalis
- Skin and skin structure infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus
- Uncomplicated gonorrhea caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae
- Rectal gonococcal infections in women due to Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Pharmacology
- Cefpodoxime is an oral 3rd generation cephalosporin
- Good stability to beta lactamases
- Activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria
- Approximately 29 to 33% excreted unchanged in the urine in 12 hours
- More effective against gram-positive bacteria than other 3rd generation oral cephalosporins
Dosage and administration
- Adults and Adolescents (13 years and older): Various dosage regimens for different infections
- Infants and Pediatric Patients (2 months to 12 years): Various dosage regimens for different infections
- Patients with renal dysfunction: Dosing interval adjustment required
- Patients with liver cirrhosis: No dose adjustment necessary

Pregnancy and lactation

Precautions and warnings
- Reduce total daily dose in patients with reduction in urinary output
- Administer with caution to patients receiving potent diuretics
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
