Indications

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal action
  • Inhibition of cell-wall synthesis
  • Susceptibility to gram-negative organisms
  • Activity against gram-positive organisms
  • Stability to beta-lactamases

Dosage

  • Usual adult dosage of 1 gram every 8 to 12 hours
  • Dosing based on susceptibility, infection severity and patient condition
  • Parenteral administration
  • Different dosages for urinary tract infections, severe infections, and prophylactic use in prostatic surgery

Administration

  • Intravenous or deep intramuscular injection
  • Reconstitution with Sterile Water for Injection

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Ceftazidime or cephalosporin antibiotics

  • Caution in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal disease

Use in Special Populations

  • Dosage adjustment for impaired renal function
  • Use in peritoneal dialysis and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD)
  • No dosage adjustment for hepatic dysfunction

Overdose Effects

  • Reported overdose effects in renal failure patients
