Description
- A fixed-dose combination of Amlodipine and Atenolol
- Indicated in essential hypertension
- Indicated in angina pectoris and hypertension as co-existing diseases
- Indicated in post myocardial infarction patients
- Indicated in refractory angina pectoris where nitrate therapy has failed
- Reduces peripheral vascular resistance
- Reduces blood pressure
- Reduces tone and decreases coronary vasoreactivity
- Lowers cardiac demand by reducing afterload
- Reduction in blood pressure by lowering cardiac output
- Reduces plasma renin activity and sympathetic outflow from CNS
- Reduction in myocardial oxygen demand
- Lower recommended dosage: Amlodipine and Atenolol 5/25 mg tablet once daily
- Higher recommended dosage: Amlodipine and Atenolol 5/25 mg two tablets daily or as advised by physicians
- Interacts with Disopyramide, Ampicillin, Oral antidiabetics, and insulin
- Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to either component, sinus bradycardia, second and higher degrees of heart block, cardiogenic shock, hypotension, congestive heart failure, poor left ventricular function
- Well tolerated with overall side-effects including fatigue, headache, edema, nausea, drowsiness, anxiety, and depression
- Use during pregnancy only if expected benefit outweighs potential fetal risk
- Not recommended for nursing mothers
- Use with caution in patients with airway obstruction, renal impairment, and hepatic impairment
- Drug withdrawal should be gradual and under observation
- Possible overdose effects: hypotension, congestive cardiac failure
- Storage conditions: Keep below 30°C temperature, away from light and moisture, keep out of the reach of children
