Indications

Pharmacology

  • Broad-spectrum parenteral cephalosporin antibiotic
  • Bactericidal activity against wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
  • Interferes with synthesis of bacterial cell wall
  • High stability in presence of beta lactamases
  • Relatively long plasma elimination half-life of 6-9 hours
  • Not metabolized in the body
  • Excretion in urine and bile
  • Highly protein bound (95%)

Dosage

  • Adult dosage: 1-2 gm by intravenous or intramuscular administration once a day
  • Dosage for various infections and age groups
  • Duration of therapy: 4-14 days
