Description

Dosage

Indications

Pharmacology

  • Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium antagonist
  • Amlodipine acts as a peripheral vasodilator
  • Atenolol is a cardioselective beta-blocker
  • Atenolol reduces blood pressure by lowering cardiac output and sympathetic outflow
  • Atenolol reduces myocardial oxygen demand by negative inotropic and negative chronotropic effects

Interaction

  • Interacts with Disopyramide by reducing its clearance
  • Interacts with Ampicillin at high doses
  • Interacts with oral antidiabetics and insulin by decreasing tissue sensitivity to insulin and inhibiting insulin secretion

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to either component
  • Contraindicated in sinus bradycardia
  • Contraindicated in heart block, cardiogenic shock, hypotension, and congestive heart failure

Side effects

  • Side effects include fatigue, headache, edema, nausea, drowsiness, anxiety, and depression

Pregnancy and lactation
