Indications

Pharmacology
- Broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
- Bactericidal activity
- Interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis
- High stability in the presence of beta lactamases
- Long plasma elimination half-life of 6 to 9 hours
- Not metabolized in the body
- Excretion via urine and feces
- Highly protein bound (95%)
Dosage
- Usual adult dose: 1 to 2 gm by intravenous or intramuscular administration once a day
- Maximum adult dose: 4 gm/day
- Usual pediatric dose: 50 to 75 mg/kg intravenous or intramuscular administration once a day
- Maximum pediatric dose: 2 gm/day
- Duration of therapy: 4 to 14 days
Administration
- Preparation for Intramuscular / Intravenous Injections
- Administered over 2-4 minutes for intramuscular or intravenous injection
- Administered over 30 minutes for tubing infusion
- Patient tolerance test recommended
- Freshly reconstituted solution recommended
