Indications
- Lower respiratory tract infections

Pharmacology
- Broad-spectrum parenteral cephalosporin antibiotic
- Bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
- Interference with bacterial cell wall synthesis
- Long plasma elimination half-life of about 6 to 9 hours
- Excretion in urine and feces
- High protein binding
Dosage
- Usual adult dose: 1 to 2 gm intravenous or intramuscular administration once a day
- Usual pediatric dose: 50 to 75 mg/kg intravenous or intramuscular administration once a day
- Specific doses for different infections and patient groups
- Duration of therapy: 4 to 14 days, longer for complicated infections
