Indications
- Lower respiratory tract infections

Pharmacology
- Broad-spectrum parenteral cephalosporin antibiotic
- Potent bactericidal activity
- Interferes with the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
- High stability in the presence of beta lactamases
- Long plasma elimination half-life of 6 to 9 hours
- Not metabolized in the body
- Excreted unchanged in urine and bile
- Highly protein bound (95%)
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 1 to 2 gm by intravenous or intramuscular administration once a day
- Maximum adult dose: 4 gm/day
- Infants and Children dosage: 50 to 75 mg/kg intravenous or intramuscular administration once a day
- Maximum pediatric dose: 2 gm/day
- Duration of therapy: 4 to 14 days
Administration
- Preparation of Solutions for Intramuscular / Intravenous Injections
- Should be dissolved in specific volumes of Lidocaine HCI 1% injection or Water for injection
- Administration over 2-4 minutes for Intramuscular or Intravenous injection

Contraindications
Not to be given to patients with hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics

Must not be given to neonates if premature and newborn (up to 28 days of age)
