Indications

  • Treatment for pneumonia caused by specific microorganisms
  • Empiric treatment for febrile neutropenic patients
  • Treatment for uncomplicated and complicated urinary tract infections
  • Treatment for uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
  • Treatment for complicated intra-abdominal infections

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal action
  • Disruption of peptidoglycan layer synthesis
  • Mode of action similar to other beta-lactam antibiotics

Dosage & Administration

  • Intravenous administration over approximately 30 minutes
  • Specific dosages for different types of infections
  • Caution for patients with prolonged neutropenia

Interaction

  • Monitoring of renal function if administered with aminoglycosides
  • Nephrotoxicity potential with concomitant administration of other cephalosporins and potent diuretics

Contraindications

  • Immediate hypersensitivity to cefepime or cephalosporins, penicillin, or other betalactum antibiotics
