Description
- Fourth generation cephalosporin indicated for the treatment of various infections caused by susceptible strains of microorganisms.
Indications
- Treatment of pneumonia (moderate to severe)
- Treatment of febrile neutropenia
- Treatment of urinary tract infections (complicated and uncomplicated)
- Treatment of skin and skin structure infections
- Treatment of intra-abdominal infections (used in combination with metronidazole)
Pharmacology
- Bactericidal action
- Disruption of peptidoglycan layer synthesis in bacterial cell walls
- Mode of action similar to other beta-lactam antibiotics
Dosage & Administration
- Administered intravenously over approximately 30 minutes
- Specific dosage for various infections as per severity level and causative microorganisms
Interaction
- Monitoring of renal function when administered with aminoglycosides
- Potential nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity with aminoglycoside antibiotics
Contraindications
- Immediate hypersensitivity reactions to cefepime or cephalosporin class of antibiotics
- Hypersensitivity to penicillin or other betalactum antibiotics
