Description

  • Fourth generation cephalosporin indicated for the treatment of various infections caused by susceptible strains of microorganisms.

Indications

  • Treatment of pneumonia (moderate to severe)
  • Treatment of febrile neutropenia
  • Treatment of urinary tract infections (complicated and uncomplicated)
  • Treatment of skin and skin structure infections
  • Treatment of intra-abdominal infections (used in combination with metronidazole)

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal action
  • Disruption of peptidoglycan layer synthesis in bacterial cell walls
  • Mode of action similar to other beta-lactam antibiotics

Dosage & Administration

  • Administered intravenously over approximately 30 minutes
  • Specific dosage for various infections as per severity level and causative microorganisms

Interaction

  • Monitoring of renal function when administered with aminoglycosides
  • Potential nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity with aminoglycoside antibiotics

Contraindications

  • Immediate hypersensitivity reactions to cefepime or cephalosporin class of antibiotics
