Pharmacology

Imipenem as a penem antibacterial drug
Cilastatin as a renal dehydropeptidase inhibitor
Bactericidal activity from inhibition of cell wall synthesis
Affinity for penicillin binding proteins
Stability in the presence of beta-lactamases

Dosage & Administration

Dosage based on suspected or confirmed pathogen susceptibility
Different dosage regimens for adult patients based on renal function
Reconstitution with appropriate diluent
Intravenous infusion administration

Interaction

Concurrent admin with probenecid may increase the half-life of cilastatin. Increased risk of generalised seizures when used concurrently with ganciclovir.
