Pharmacology

Imipenem, a penem antibacterial drug
Cilastatin, a renal dehydropeptidase inhibitor
Bactericidal activity from inhibition of cell wall synthesis
Stable in the presence of beta-lactamases
Affinity for penicillin binding proteins (PBPs)

Dosage & Administration

Dosage based on suspected or confirmed pathogen susceptibility
Different dosages for adult patients with normal renal function
Reduced dose for patients with decreased renal function
Reconstitution with appropriate diluent before intravenous infusion
Specific recommended dosages for pediatric patients

Interaction

Concurrent administration with probenecid and ganciclovir

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the combination
