Description
- Aropen is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections in adults and children.
Indications
- Pneumonia and Nosocomial Pneumonia
- Urinary Tract Infections
- Intra-abdominal Infections
- Gynaecological Infections
- Skin and Skin Structure Infections
- Meningitis
- Septicaemia
- Pulmonary infections in cystic fibrosis
- Empiric treatment for presumed infections in patients with febrile neutropenia
Pharmacology
- Interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis
- Potent activity against a broad spectrum of bacteria
- Bactericidal action
- Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Carbapenem antibiotic for parenteral use
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 500 mg to 1 gm by intravenous administration every 8 hours
- Recommended daily dosage depending on type and severity of infection and patient's condition
- Children dosage: 10 to 40 mg/kg intravenously every 8 hours
- Dosage adjustments for special populations such as renal impairment, hepatic impairment, and elderly patients
Administration
- Administered by intravenous infusion over approximately 15-30 minutes or as intravenous bolus over 3-5 minutes
Interaction
- Potential interaction with probenecid affecting renal excretion and plasma concentration
- May reduce serum valproic acid levels
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with demonstrated hypersensitivity to the product
Side Effects
- Inflammation and pain at the injection site
- Skin reactions such as rash and pruritus
- Gastrointestinal effects like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
