- Possible exacerbation of nephrotoxic effects by diuretics or other nephrotoxic drugs
- Increase in the hypoglycemic effect of insulin and sulfonylureas in patients with diabetes mellitus
- Possible increase in toxic effects of ergot alkaloids and methotrexate
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to tetracycline groups
- Avoided in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus
- Considered contraindicated in severe renal impairment
- Risk of depression of bone growth and teeth discoloration in children and during pregnancy
- Possible hypersensitivity reactions such as anaphylaxis, urticaria, and rashes
- Occurrence of photosensitivity reactions in intense sunlight
- Common gastrointestinal effects like epigastric distress and nausea
- Possibility of vomiting, accentuated prerenal azotemia, and superinfections with oral and anogenital candidiasis
- Esophageal ulcerations if capsules are taken with little or no fluid before bed
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation
- Potential risk of impaired bone growth and teeth discoloration in breastfed children and children up to 8-12 years
- Careful administration in patients with impaired liver function
- Avoid concomitant use with potentially hepatotoxic drugs
- Belongs to the tetracycline group of drugs
