Dosage
- Usual dose of 200mg on first day
- Maintenance dose of 100mg daily for 7-10 days
- Severe infections may require 200mg daily for 10 days
- Acne treatment with 100mg daily
- Uncomplicated genital chlamydia and non-gonococcal urethritis may require 100mg twice daily for 7-21 days
- A longer period may be required for pelvic inflammatory disease
Administration
- Oral administration
- Capsules to be swallowed whole
- To be taken with plenty of fluid during meals
- To be taken while sitting or standing
Interaction
- Impaired absorption by antacids containing aluminium, calcium, or magnesium
- Impaired absorption by iron-containing preparations
- Impaired absorption by bismuth salicylate
- Decreased half-life with barbiturates
- Decreased half-life with carbamazepine
- Decreased half-life with phenytoin
- Possible rendering of oral contraceptives less effective
- Possible need for downward adjustment of anticoagulant dosages
- Avoid concurrent use with penicillin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines
- Children under 8 years of age
- Pregnant women
- Lactating mothers

- Avoidance in pregnant women
- Risk of staining and effect on bone growth in fetus

Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid during tooth development in children
- Risk of permanent discoloration of teeth
- Not recommended in infancy and childhood up to 8 years of age
