Pharmacology
Bacteriostatic antibiotic with broad spectrum activity
Usual Dosage
200 mg on first day, then 100 mg daily for 7-10 days
Severe Infections Dosage
200 mg daily for 10 days
Acne Treatment Dosage
100 mg daily
Genital Chlamydia Dosage
100 mg twice daily for 7-21 days
Administration
Capsules should be swallowed whole with plenty of fluid during meals while sitting or standing
Interaction
- Impaired absorption by antacids
- Decreased half-life by barbiturates, carbamazepine, phenytoin
- Reduction of oral contraceptive effectiveness
- Anticoagulant dose adjustment required
- Contraindicated with penicillin

- Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines
