Indications
- Blepharitis

Pharmacology
- Actively transported across bacterial cell membrane
- Binds to a specific receptor protein on the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes
- Interferes with initiation complex between mRNA and the 30S subunit
- Inhibits protein synthesis
- Active against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Niesseria gonorrhoea, Pseudomonus aeruginosa, and Serratia marcescens
Dosage & Administration
- 1-2 drops instilled in affected eye up to 6 times a day for eye
- 2-3 drops instilled every 3-4 times a day for ear
Interaction
- None reported with topical and Eye/Ear drops
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in individuals with a history of sensitivity reaction to any of its components
Side Effects
- Irritation (erythema and pruritus) in dermatoses patients
- Ocular burning and irritation upon drug instillation
- Non-specific conjunctivitis
- Conjunctival epithelial defects
- Conjunctival hyperemia
- Bacterial and corneal ulcer with eye/ear drops
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Possibility of foetal ototoxicity when applied to large denuded areas of skin
- Safety profile not yet established during pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Discontinue if irritation or sensitization develops
- Not for injection
- Should not be injected subconjunctivally or directly into the anterior chamber of the eye
