Description

  • Belongs to the macrolides group of antibiotics
  • Exerts bacteriostatic or bactericidal action
  • Used for the treatment of infections caused by penicillinase producing staphylococci
  • Particularly susceptible to certain micro-organisms

Pharmacology

  • Inhibits microsomal protein synthesis in susceptible organisms
  • Active against Gram-positive bacteria, some Gram-negative bacteria, mycoplasmas, and chlamydia

Dosage and Administration

  • Adult and Children over 8 years

Interaction

  • May increase serum theophylline levels and potential theophylline toxicity

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to Erythromycin
