Description
Belongs to the macrolides group of antibiotics. Bacteriostatic or bactericidal action. Used for infections caused by penicillinase producing staphylococci. Susceptible to various micro-organisms including gram (+)ve and gram (-)ve bacteria, mycoplasmas, and chlamydia.
Pharmacology
- Inhibits microsomal protein synthesis
- Specific binding to 50S subunit or 70S ribosome
- Active against Grampositive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria
- Absorption and blood concentration
- Distribution in body tissue and fluids
- Excretion in urine and bile
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for adults and children over 8 years
- Dosage for elderly
- Dosage for children aged 2 to 8 years
- Dosage for infants and children up to 2 years
Interaction
Potential interaction with theophylline leading to increased serum levels and toxicity

Known hypersensitivity to Erythromycin
