Indications

Pharmacology
- Oral absorption with no need for protection from gastric acids
- Time to peak concentration in adults
- High concentration in phagocytes
- Long half-life allowing large single dose administration
- Biliary excretion as a major elimination route
- Microbiological activity against various microorganisms
Adult Dosage
- 500 mg once daily orally for 3 days
- 500 mg once on day 1, then 250 mg once daily for 4 days
- 1 gm single dose for sexually transmitted diseases
Children Dosage
- 10 mg/kg body weight once daily for 3 days
- 200 mg for 3 days if 15-25 kg body weight
- 300 mg for 3 days if 26-35 kg body weight
- 400 mg for 3 days if 36-45 kg body weight
Administration Reconstitution
- Shake the bottle well to loosen the powder
- Add boiled and cooled water up to the water mark of the bottle label
- Shake until powder is completely mixed with water
Antacid Interaction
- Take at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after the antacid
Cyclosporin Interaction
- Caution should be exercised before co-administration
- Cyclosporin levels should be monitored and the dose adjusted accordingly
Digoxin Interaction
- Possibility of raised digoxin levels should be borne in mind and digoxin levels monitored
Ergot Derivatives Interaction
- Avoid co-administration due to the theoretical possibility of ergotism
Methylprednisolone Interaction
- Azithromycin has no significant effect on Methylprednisolone pharmacokinetics
