Description
- Asizith is indicated for infections in lower respiratory tract, upper respiratory tract, otitis media, skin and soft tissue infections, and sexually transmitted diseases
- Azithromycin is acid-stable and can be taken orally with no need of protection from gastric acids
- Azithromycin has high concentration in phagocytes and active transport to the site of infection
- Asizith is available in oral dosage form and for IV infusion
- Azithromycin acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms and interfering with microbial protein synthesis
- Recommended dosage for adults is 500 mg once daily orally for 3 days, and for children, the dosage varies with body weight and condition
- Reconstitution procedure of suspension involves shaking the bottle well and adding boiled and cooled water up to the water mark of the bottle label
- Interaction with antacids, carbamazepine, cyclosporin, digoxin, ergot derivatives, methylprednisolone, theophylline, warfarin, and terfenadine
- Azithromycin is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to Azithromycin or any other macrolide antibiotic, co-administration of ergot derivatives, and patients with hepatic diseases
