Indications

  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Otitis media
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Non-gonococcal urethritis
  • Cervicitis

Pharmacology

  • Orally administrable
  • Quick absorption
  • High concentration in phagocytes
  • Extended tissue half-life
  • Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms

Dosage

  • Adult oral dosage: 500mg once daily for 3 days
  • Pediatric oral dosage: 10mg/kg body weight once daily for 3 days
  • IV infusion dosage: 500mg as a single daily dose

Administration

  • Reconstitution procedure for suspension
  • Timing in relation to meals

Interaction

  • Interactions with antacids, carbamazepine, cyclosporin, digoxin, ergot derivatives, methylprednisolone, theophylline, warfarin, terfenadine

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Azithromycin or macrolide antibiotic
  • Co-administration with ergot derivatives
  • Hepatic diseases

Side Effects
