Description
Azicin is indicated for various infections in the respiratory tract, otitis media, skin, and soft tissue. It is also used in the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. The pharmacology involves interfering with microbial protein synthesis, and it is administered orally or through injection. Azicin has a set dosage for adults and children, and the administration process includes reconstitution of suspension. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to macrolide antibiotics and those with hepatic diseases. Azicin is well tolerated with mild to moderate side effects, and it is considered safe for use during pregnancy (Category B). The precautions and warnings include rare serious allergic reactions, and it should be used cautiously in patients with renal impairment. Overdose effects may include hearing loss, severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
