Indications

  • Lower respiratory tract infections treatment
  • Upper respiratory tract infections treatment
  • Otitis media treatment
  • Skin and soft tissue infections treatment
  • Treatment of non-gonococcal urethritis
  • Treatment of cervicitis due to Chlamydia trachomatis

Pharmacology

  • Acid-stable for oral administration
  • Readily absorbed
  • Time to peak concentration in adults: 2.1 to 3.2 hours
  • High concentration in phagocytes for active transport to infection site
  • Over 50 times higher concentration in tissues compared to plasma
  • Biliary excretion as major elimination route

Dosage

  • Adult oral dosage: 500 mg once daily for 3 days
  • Child dosage based on body weight
  • Oral dose followed by IV infusion
  • Recommended dose for community-acquired pneumonia

Administration

  • Suspension reconstitution steps
  • Take at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meal

Interaction

  • Take azithromycin 1 hour before or 2 hours after antacids
