Pharmacology

Dosage
- 500 mg daily for 3 days (adults)
- 10 mg/kg body weight for 3 days (children)
- 500 mg single daily dose for 7-10 days in typhoid fever
- 500 mg IV for at least two days with switch to oral therapy for community-acquired pneumonia
Administration
- Oral suspension reconstitution procedure
- Should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal
Interaction
- Interaction with antacids
- Interaction with carbamazepine
- Potential interference with cyclosporin metabolism
- Potential impact on digoxin levels
- Contraindicated with ergot derivatives
