Indications
- Lower respiratory tract infections

Pharmacology
- Readily absorbed
- Time to peak concentration
- High concentration in phagocytes
- Active transport to site of infection
- Half-life of 68 hours
- Biliary excretion
Dosage
- 500 mg once daily orally for 3 days
- 500 mg once on day 1 followed by 250 mg once on days 2-5 for 4 days
- 10 mg/kg body weight once daily for 3 days for children over 6 months
Administration
- Oral administration
- Reconstitution procedure for suspension
- Should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal
Interaction
- Interactions with Antacids, Carbamazepine, Cyclosporin, Digoxin, Ergot derivatives, Methylprednisolone, Theophylline, Warfarin, Terfenadine
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Azithromycin or macrolide antibiotics
- Co-administration with ergot derivatives
- Patients with hepatic diseases

- Typical symptoms include hearing loss, severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
