Indications
- Lower respiratory tract infections treatment
- Upper respiratory tract infections treatment

Pharmacology
- Oral administration with no protection from gastric acids
- Readily absorbed and greater absorption on an empty stomach
- Time to peak concentration in adults - 2.1 to 3.2 hours
- High concentration in phagocytes
- Large concentrations released during active phagocytosis
- Prolonged terminal half-life
- Action by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms
Dosage
- 500 mg once daily orally for 3 days in adults
- Adult dose: 500 mg once on day 1, then 250 mg once on days 2-5 for 4 days
- Child dose of 10 mg/kg body weight once daily for 3 days
- Dosage for typhoid fever and IV infusion
Administration
- Oral administration
- Reconstitution procedure for suspension
- Intake at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal
Interaction
- Interaction with antacids
- Cyclosporin interference with macrolide antibiotics
- Effect on the metabolism of digoxin
- Avoiding co-administration with ergot derivatives
