- Acid-stable
- Readily absorbed
- High concentration in phagocytes
- Active transport to site of infection
- Bacteriostatic levels in infected tissue
Dosage
- Oral:
- 500 mg once daily for 3 days
- 500 mg once on day 1, then 250 mg once on days 2-5 for 4 days
- Children:
- 10 mg/kg body weight once daily for 3 days
- Doses based on body weight
- 500 mg once daily for 7-10 days in typhoid fever
- Injection:
- 500 mg as single daily dose for at least two days for community-acquired pneumonia
- 500 mg as single daily dose for one or two days for pelvic inflammatory disease

- Reconstitution procedure for suspension
- Take at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal
