Indications
- Lower respiratory tract infections

Pharmacology
- Readily absorbed
- Peak concentration in adults 2.1-3.2 hours
- High concentration in phagocytes
- Active transport to site of infection
- High concentration in tissues
- Bacteriostatic levels maintained for several days
- Biliary excretion is a major route of elimination
- Microbial protein synthesis interference
Dosage
- Adult dosage 500mg once daily for 3 days
- Children's dosage based on body weight
- Azithromycin injection dosage for specific conditions
Administration
- Oral administration
- Reconstitution procedure for suspension
- Take at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meal
Interaction
- Interaction with antacids
- Potential interactions with carbamazepine, cyclosporin, digoxin, ergot derivatives, methylprednisolone, theophylline, warfarin, terfenadine
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Azithromycin or macrolide antibiotics
- Co-administration of ergot derivatives
- Hepatic diseases
