Indications

Pharmacology
- Acid-stable
- Readily absorbed

- Active transport to site of infection

Dosage
- 500 mg once daily orally for adults
- Dose by body weight for children
- Dosage for intravenous (IV) infusion in adults
- Dosage for pelvic inflammatory disease in adults
- No established dosage for children or adolescents under 16 years
Administration
- Reconstitution procedure for suspension
- Should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meal
Interaction
- Interaction with antacids
- Potential interactions with carbamazepine, cyclosporin, digoxin, ergot derivatives, methylprednisolone, theophylline, warfarin, terfenadine
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to azithromycin or macrolide antibiotics
- Co-administration with ergot derivatives
