Indications

Description
Macrolide with antibacterial properties similar to erythromycin, active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Pharmacology
Inhibits protein synthesis by irreversibly binding to the 50s ribosomal subunits.
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: One 300 mg tablet once daily or one 150 mg tablet twice a day, for 5-10 days.
- Pediatric dose: 2.5 to 5 mg/kg body weight twice a day, with specific doses for different weight ranges.
Interaction
No affinity for cytochrome P-450 binding sites, mild interaction with theophylline.
Contraindications
Should not be administered simultaneously with ergotamine or its derivatives.
