Pharmacology
Inhibits protein synthesis by irreversibly binding to the 50s ribosomal subunits
Dosage & Administration
- Usual Adult Dose: 300 mg tablet once daily or 150 mg tablet twice a day for at least 2 days
- Usual Pediatric Dose: 2.5 to 5 mg/kg body weight twice a day
Absorption
Best administered on an empty stomach

- Cytochrome P-450 Affinity: None
- Mild Interaction with: Theophylline

Contraindications
Simultaneous administration with ergotamine or its derivatives

- Safety not established in pregnancy
- Appears in breast milk in small amounts with no adverse effects in breastfed infants
Precautions & Warnings
- Not to be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the drug
- In patients with hepatic diseases, the dose should not exceed 150 mg twice a day
