Description
- Roxcin is a macrolide with antibacterial properties similar to erythromycin, active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and atypical pathogens.
Indications Usage
- Respiratory infections
- ENT infections
- Skin infections
- Genital infections
Pharmacology
- Inhibits protein synthesis by irreversibly binding to the 50s ribosomal subunits, thus blocking transpeptidation or translocation reactions of susceptible organisms.
Dosage Administration
- Adult dose: 300 mg tablet once daily or 150 mg tablet twice a day, Pediatric dose: 2.5 to 5 mg/kg body weight twice a day
Interaction
- No affinity for cytochrome P-450 binding sites, mild interaction with theophylline, no alteration in the pharmacokinetics of carbamazepine or warfarin
Contraindications
- Simultaneous administration with ergotamine or its derivatives
Side Effects
- Mainly nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, hypersensitivity rash, vomiting, dizziness, headache, pruritus, dyspepsia
Pregnancy Lactation
- Safety not established in pregnancy, appears in breast milk in small amounts
Precautions Warnings
- Not to be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the drug, dose limitation in hepatic diseases
