Description
- Lincosamide antibiotic
- Derived from lincomycin
- Effective against aerobic gram-positive cocci
- Effective against anaerobic gram-negative bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic and microaerophilic gram-positive cocci
- Semisynthetic antibiotic
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for serious infections: 150 mg-300 mg every six hours
- Dosage for more severe infections: 300 mg-450 mg every six hours
- Dosage of Powder for oral solution for serious infections: 8-12 mg/kg/day
- Dosage of Powder for oral solution for severe infections: 13-16 mg/kg/day
- Dosage of Powder for oral solution for more severe infections: 17-25 mg/kg/day
- Dosage of IV/IM Injection for serious infections in adults: 600-1200 mg/day in 2- 4 equal doses
- Dosage of IV/IM Injection for neonates (less than 1 month): 15 to 20 mg/kg/day in 3 to 4 equal doses
Interaction
- Enhances the action of neuromuscular blocking agents
- Antagonistic effect with erythromycin
Contraindications
- Patients sensitive to clindamycin or any of the ingredients

- Abdominal pain
- Oesophagitis and oesophagial ulcer
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Pruritus
- Skin rashes
- Urticaria
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Crosses the placenta in humans
- Not recommended for nursing mothers if not clearly needed
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed with caution in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal disease
Use in Special Populations
- Monitoring of organ system functions in newborns and infants
- No dose adjustment necessary for geriatric use
Overdose Effects
- Rare occurrence of overdosage with orally administered Clindax
- Haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are not effective in removing Clindax from the serum
