Description
- Lincosamide antibiotic
- Derived from lincomycin
- Effective against aerobic gram-positive cocci
- Effective against anaerobic gram-negative bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic gram-positive non-spore forming bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic and microaerophilic gram-positive cocci
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for serious infections: 150 mg-300 mg every six hours
- Dosage for more severe infections: 300 mg-450 mg every six hours
- Dosage of Clindamycin Powder for oral solution
- Dosage of Clindamycin IV/IM Injection
Interaction
- Enhances the action of other neuromuscular blocking agents
- Antagonism with erythromycin
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients previously found to be sensitive to clindamycin or any of the ingredients

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Crosses the placenta in humans
- Appears in breast milk
- Not recommended for nursing mothers if not clearly needed
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed with caution in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis
Use in Special Populations
- Appropriate monitoring of organ system functions is desirable for newborns and infants
- No dose adjustment necessary for geriatric use
Overdose Effects
- Rarity of overdosage with orally administered Clindax
- Adverse reactions similar to those seen with normal doses
