Description

  • Lincosamide antibiotic
  • Treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms
  • Semisynthetic antibiotic derived from lincomycin
  • Targets aerobic gram-positive cocci and anaerobic gram-negative bacilli

Dosage & Administration

  • Dosage for serious infections: 150 mg-300 mg every six hours
  • Dosage for more severe infections: 300 mg-450 mg every six hours
  • Dosage for oral solution in pediatric patients weighing 10 kg or less: 1/2 teaspoon (37.5 mg) three times a day
  • Dosage for IV/IM Injection in adults: 600-1200 mg/day in 2-4 equal doses
  • Dosage for neonates (less than 1 month): 15 to 20 mg/kg/day in 3 to 4 equal doses

Interaction

Enhances the action of other neuromuscular blocking agents and should be used with caution in patients receiving such agents

Contraindications

Not to be used in patients previously found to be sensitive to clindamycin or any of the medicine's ingredients

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category B, crosses the placenta and appears in breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

Prescribed with caution in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis

  • Appropriate monitoring of organ system functions desirable for newborns and infants
  • No dose adjustment necessary for geriatric use

Overdose Effects

Rare overdosage, should be treated with simple gastric lavage
