Description
- Lincosamide antibiotic
- Semisynthetic antibiotic derived from lincomycin
- Effective against aerobic gram-positive cocci
- Effective against anaerobic gram-negative bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic gram-positive non-spore forming bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic and microaerophilic gram-positive cocci
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for Clindamycin Capsule: 150-450 mg every six hours
- Dosage for Clindamycin Powder: 8-25 mg/kg/day divided into 3 or 4 equal doses
- Dosage for Clindamycin IV/IM Injection: 600-4800 mg/day in 2-4 equal doses
- Parenteral therapy may be changed to Capsules
- Treatment should be continued for at least 10 days in cases of (3-hemolytic streptococcal infections)
Interaction
Enhances the action of other neuromuscular blocking agents. Antagonism with erythromycin.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients previously found to be sensitive to clindamycin or any of the ingredients

- Prescribed with caution in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal disease
- Appropriate monitoring of organ system functions is desirable for newborns and infants

- No dose adjustment for geriatric use
Overdose Effects
- Rare
- Similar adverse reactions to normal doses
- Haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are not effective in removing Daclin from the serum
- No known specific antidote
