Description
- Lincosamide antibiotic
- Semisynthetic antibiotic derived from lincomycin
- Effective against aerobic and anaerobic bacteria
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage of Clindamycin Capsule
- Dosage of Clindamycin Powder for oral solution
- Dosage of Clindamycin IV/IM Injection
- Dosage for serious, severe, and more severe infections
- Dosage for pediatric and adult patients
- Administration with a full glass of water
- Plasma concentration over MIC90 for more than 12 hours
Interaction
- Enhances the action of other neuromuscular blocking agents
- Antagonism with erythromycin
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients previously found sensitive to clindamycin or its ingredients

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Crosses placenta and appears in breast milk
- Should be used if clearly needed
- Not recommended for nursing mothers if not clearly needed
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed with caution in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis
Use in Special Populations
- Monitoring recommended for newborns and infants
- No dose adjustment needed for geriatric use
Overdose Effects
- Rare overdosage with similar adverse reactions
- Haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are not effective
- Treated with simple gastric lavage
- No specific antidote known
