Description
- Lincosamide antibiotic
- Effective against susceptible microorganisms
- Derived from lincomycin
- Effective against aerobic gram-positive cocci
- Effective against anaerobic gram-negative bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic gram-positive non-spore forming bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic and microaerophilic gram-positive cocci
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for Clindamycin Capsule: 150 mg-3000 mg every six hours
- Dosage for Clindamycin Powder for oral solution: 8-25 mg/kg/day divided into 3 or 4 equal doses
- Recommended dosage for pediatric patients weighing 10 kg or less: 1/2 teaspoon (37.5 mg) three times a day
- Dosage for Clindamycin IV/IM Injection: Varies based on infection type and age group
Interaction
- Enhances action of neuromuscular blocking agents
- Antagonism with erythromycin
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients sensitive to clindamycin or any ingredient

Precautions & Warnings

Use in Special Populations
- Use in newborns and infants requires appropriate monitoring of organ system functions
- No dose adjustment required for geriatric use
Overdose Effects
- Similar adverse effects as normal doses
- Haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are not effective in removing Lincocin from the serum
- Overdosage should be treated with simple gastric lavage
