Description

  • Lincosamide antibiotic
  • Derived from lincomycin
  • Effective against aerobic gram-positive cocci
  • Effective against anaerobic gram-negative bacilli
  • Effective against anaerobic gram-positive non-spore forming bacilli
  • Effective against anaerobic and microaerophilic gram-positive cocci

Dosage & Administration

  • Dosage for serious infections: 150-300 mg every six hours for capsules
  • Dosage for more severe infections: 300-450 mg every six hours for capsules
  • Dosage for serious infections: 8-12 mg/kg/day for oral solution
  • Dosage for severe infections: 13-16 mg/kg/day for oral solution
  • Dosage for more severe infections: 17-25 mg/kg/day for oral solution
  • Dosage for serious infections: 600-1200 mg/day for IV/IM injection
  • Dosage for more severe infections: 1200-2700 mg/day for IV/IM injection

Interaction

  • Enhances action of other neuromuscular blocking agents

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients previously sensitive to clindamycin
