Description
- Lincosamide antibiotic
- Derived from lincomycin
- Effective against aerobic gram-positive cocci
- Effective against anaerobic gram-negative bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic gram-positive non-spore forming bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic and microaerophilic gram-positive cocci
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for serious infections: 150 mg-300 mg every six hours
- Dosage for more severe infections: 300 mg-450 mg every six hours
- Dosage for pediatric patients: 20 to 40 mg/kg/day
- Parenteral therapy may be changed to Capsules (clindamycin hydrochloride) when warranted
Interaction
- Enhances the action of other neuromuscular blocking agents
- Antagonism demonstrated between Climed and erythromycin in vitro
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients previously found to be sensitive to clindamycin or any of the ingredients

- Prescribed with caution in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal disease
- Appropriate monitoring of organ system functions desirable in newborns and infants

- Dose adjustment not necessary for geriatric use
Overdose Effects
- Adverse reactions similar to those seen with normal doses can be expected
- Haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis not effective in removing Climed from the serum
- No specific antidote known
