Description
- Lincosamide antibiotic
- Derived from lincomycin
- Effective against aerobic gram-positive cocci
- Effective against anaerobic gram-negative bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic gram-positive non-spore forming bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic and microaerophilic gram-positive cocci
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage range for Clindamycin Capsule: 150 mg - 450 mg every six hours
- Dosage range for Clindamycin Powder for oral solution: 8-25 mg/kg/day divided into 3 or 4 equal doses
- Dosage range for Clindamycin IV/IM Injection: 600-4800 mg/day in 2-4 equal doses for adults
Interaction
- Enhances action of neuromuscular blocking agents
- Demonstrated antagonism with erythromycin in vitro
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients previously found to be sensitive to clindamycin or any of the ingredients

- Oesophagitis and oesophageal ulcer

- Skin rashes
- Urticaria
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Crosses the placenta in humans
- Appears in breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed with caution in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis
Use in Special Populations
- Appropriate monitoring of organ system functions desirable in newborns and infants
- No dose adjustment necessary for geriatric use
Overdose Effects
- Rare overdosage with orally administered Riboclin
- Haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are not effective in removing Riboclin from the serum
- Treatment with simple gastric lavage
- No specific antidote known
