Indications
- Upper respiratory tract infections (tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media)
- Lower respiratory tract infections (acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia)

Composition
- 375 mg tablet: Amoxicillin 250 mg + Clavulanic Acid 125 mg
- 625 mg tablet: Amoxicillin 500 mg + Clavulanic Acid 125 mg
- 1 gm tablet: Amoxicillin 875 mg + Clavulanic Acid 125 mg
- Powder for Suspension: Amoxicillin 125 mg + Clavulanic Acid 31.25 mg
- Powder for Suspension (Forte): Amoxicillin 400 mg + Clavulanic Acid 57.5 mg
- 1.2 gm Injection: Amoxicillin Sodium 1 gm + Clavulanate Potassium 200 mg
- 0.6 gm Injection: Amoxicillin Sodium 500 mg + Clavulanate Potassium 100 mg
Pharmacology
- Pharmacodynamic properties: Broad spectrum bactericidal activity against many Gram-positive & Gram-negative microorganisms
- Pharmacokinetic properties: Peak serum levels of both components occur about one hour after oral administration
Dosage
- Adult: 625 mg Tablet every 12 hours or 375 mg Tablet every 8 hours for usual dose
- Children: Dosage based on age and weight
Administration
- Oral dosage form can be taken without regard to meals
- IV injection suitable for intravenous administration
- Reconstituted vial must be used within 20 minutes
Interaction
- Potential reduction in efficacy of oral contraceptives
- Concomitant use of allopurinol can increase likelihood of allergic skin reactions
Contraindications
- History of penicillin hypersensitivity
- Cross-sensitivity with other beta-lactam antibiotics
- Patients with previous Co-amoxiclav or penicillin-associated cholestatic jaundice
Side Effects
- Uncommon and mainly mild and transient
- Gastrointestinal side effects can be reduced by taking with meals
- Rare reports of hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, skin reactions, angioedema, and anaphylaxis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended unless considered essential by physician
- Trace quantities can be detected in breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with care in patients on anticoagulation therapy or severe hepatic dysfunction
- Dosage adjustment in patients with moderate or severe renal impairment
Use in Special Populations
- Adjust dosage in renal impairment
- Monitor hepatic function at regular intervals
Overdose Effects
- Gastrointestinal symptoms, disturbance of fluid and electrolyte balances
- May be removed from circulation by haemodialysis

Storage Conditions
- Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture
- Reconstituted suspension to be kept in refrigerator and used within 7 days
